A Dying Star’s Wish

Look up there. The sky above covered us with gleaming stars and galaxies. A vast place beyond our grasp called universe. And here we are, stuck in a place called earth looking at those tiny shining dots in the night sky. We hold hands like two giant stars of Tatooine. Now i understand perfectly why, Neil DeGrasse Tyson said he felt big in this corner of the universe. This night i don’t feel small at all, because you are laying next to me. We don’t say a word. We speak with our gestures. You repeteadly tightening your grip whenever you see a shooting star, while i watch your eyes shining by amazement wondering what do you wish for. But it doesn’t matter.
I have what i wished for. I love this moment where nothing stands in our way.

Everything was going fine until you sit and let go of my hand. Your eyes full of love and hope. I sit to catch you up. Then you fill yourself with doubt, not sure of what to say. I close my eyes for a while. I have the atoms of the universe in me. I shouldn’t be afraid. I open my eyes and look at you in the eyes. Slowly, i fake a smile and tell you to go. Foolishly blinded by a bright burning star sit before me, i tell you that it isn’t me you want to spend the time with. Go to him, i say to you. I pretend to be okay and push you to him. It is a good lie i’m showing you. Just like the light of the stars we see tonight. Some of them might not exist by this very second. Yet we still see them.

You understand what i’m doing. But the force of two colliding stars inside you creating a spiral galaxy couldn’t be stopped. It is happening before my very eyes. You mustered the strength to drift further from me. You stand up while i stay seated. You shine like the stars when you’re in love and i could only watch you from below. You take your first step that would leave me breathless like a dying star, running out of hydrogen. Soon, i will be a burnout star in this cold universe and be forgotten by you. Eventually, all i could do is to gaze upon a shooting stars and wish for a hand to feel my tightening grip just like you did to me this night. When that time comes, i won’t do like you do and leave her die.
